Fine area rugs are some of the most valuable textile possessions in a home. They also collect more soiling than any other floor covering — concentrated foot traffic, dust, pet dander, food spills. Improper cleaning destroys them. FlameShield Toronto offers in-plant specialized rug cleaning using a four-stage process calibrated for fine handmade rugs.
Our Four-Stage Process
- Inspection & Colour Test — every rug is inspected for damage, fibre type, dye stability and origin. Inconspicuous colourfastness testing happens before any cleaning chemistry contacts the rug.
- Dust Removal — multiple passes through specialized rug dusters remove embedded grit, sand and dander that household vacuums cannot reach.
- Wet Cleaning — rug-specific shampoo, hand-applied with appropriate-firmness brushes, agitated by hand on the wool/silk side only. Thorough cool-water rinse to neutral pH.
- Climate-Controlled Drying — rugs hang in our temperature- and humidity-controlled drying room until completely dry. Final groom restores pile direction.
